Please arrive 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled appointment. On your first visit, bring your medications and your insurance card(s). Our preference is to limit the use of medications as much as possible. However, if we do prescribe stronger medications, you may be required to bring your medications to every visit.

Palliative Medicine appointments are usually longer than the average primary care visit. Plan for an hour for an initial visit and 25-40 min for follow visits. That may seem like plenty of time, but with complex medical situations it usually goes fast. Our staff will make every effort to see that we start and finish on time.

Our goal is to understand your goals and decrease yours and your family’s burden of suffering. Sometimes the improvements are quick and dramatic, but most often they are slow and steady, requiring trial & error and patience. The reason for the slower rate of improvement lies in the complexity often found in serious illness.

Suffering with complex symptoms can affect many, if not all, aspects of life, including physical health, psychological health, sleep and more. As a result, recommendations for your plan of care may require combinations of medications, Physical, Occupational, and/or Speech therapies, and some type of formal psychological support or counseling.

As you can see, there is much to cover. We look forward to meeting you and working toward improved quality of life!
